Exploring Your Expertise in 3 Easy Steps

The sooner you acknowledge that you’re an expert, the sooner you can begin to use it as leverage. Admitting that you’re an expert isn’t always easy. But that’s often a confidence thing. It’s time to talk about your expert areas because even if you think you’re not an expert, there will be something you’re an expert in. This topic is close to my heart – so let’s explore your expertise to fuel your writing journey. πŸš€

Why is Exploring Your Expertise Important?

Ever felt that spark of excitement when you talk about something you love and know like the back of your hand? That’s the magic of expertise! Exploring your knowledge not only ignites your passion but also opens doors to unlimited writing possibilities. If you want to leverage your income through writing, knowing, accepting, and embracing your expertise is the way to do this.

In the vast world of content creation, your expertise is your superpower. It’s the unique lens through which you see the world, and there are people out there eager to see it through your eyes.

So, what’s your superpower? What makes you shine or stand-out from the crowd?

How to Figure Out Your Expertise?

You’re probably wondering what your expertise are exactly, but there are there are 3 simple steps to help you figure out what you know (your expert areas). Uncovering your expertise is like turning on a light in a room full of possibilities, and each discovery brings you one step closer to unlocking the full potential of your writing journey.

  1. Reflect on Your Passions: Make lists of the things you know. What topics make your heart race with excitement? What could you talk about for hours on end? Your passions often hold the key to your expertise, but also consider what experience you have and what qualifications you have too. For instance, I’m a parent, and I’ve raised kids from birth to adulthood. I’ve been there and done that, so in comparison to someone who is a new parent or has a child younger than mine, I would have more experience. Remember, to be an expert, you only have to know more than your audience.
  2. Identify Your Unique Perspective: Consider what sets you apart. How are you different? Your experiences, challenges, and victories contribute to a perspective that is entirely yours. This is also a good way to figure out your story – what experiences, challenges, and victories made you the person you are today? When you know that, embrace it!
  3. Ask for Feedback: We don’t always tend to see the best in ourselves, but often, others see strengths in us that we might overlook. Ask friends, colleagues, or mentors what they consider your areas of expertise. What sort of things would they ask for your advice with? What would they ask you about? When would they require your guidance, and why?

Using Your Expertise to Make Money Through Writing

I know we talked about making money last week, but as we’re heading toward Christmas and a new year, I feel it’s really important to reiterate how you can use your expertise to make money with your writing.

Here are three quick ways you can make money writing, by leveraging your expertise:

  1. Create Valuable Content: Turn your expertise into articles, blog posts, or even social media content. Share your insights, tips, and lessons learned.
  2. Offer Consultations or Workshops: Leverage your expertise by offering one-on-one consultations or hosting workshops. People value firsthand knowledge, and your expertise could be the solution they’re seeking.
  3. Write an E-Book or Course: Compile your expertise into a comprehensive e-book or an online course. This not only establishes you as an authority but also provides a tangible product for potential earnings.

If you have good copywriting and content writing skills, they can help you connect with and nurture your audience. Copywriting is also important in sales, when you write product descriptions, sales pages, sales scripts, adverts for your products and services, sales emails etc… so don’t underestimate the power of diverse writing skills. Content writing is a good way to nurture your audience and keep them engaged, through non-salesy social media posts, emails, and lead magnets. They build connection and trust, providing you stay authentic.

Remember, your expertise is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. The more you embrace it, the more doors you open for both personal and financial growth. Don’t waste time! Let’s work together this week and unleash the full potential of your writing!

I’m talking about exploring your expertise in my Facebook Group this week, The Writer’s Circle for Entrepreneurs. I’d love it if you could join us, or for more tips, follow me on Instagram or TikTok.

Happy writing! πŸ“šβœ¨

Much love,
